Havrilla Relief Fund
There are no words.
As many of you know, our dear friend, and the woman who has given so much love, joy, and music to our lives, Christine Havrilla, passed away on May 14, 2025. Her passing has left an indelible mark and a huge hole in the hearts of so many of us – especially of her family and her devoted wife, Brooke.
Christine was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer in early 2020, and had to navigate this while facing a global pandemic. Friends and fans stepped up to help as Christine had to give up her livelihood of performing live music and touring.
Dear friends Dirk and Judy set up a GoFundMe for Christine. She hated accepting help, but they made sure she had no choice. In the first year, beginning in 2020, the fund raised nearly $100,000 and most recently, your support has exceeded the goal of $200,000. While that sounds like a lot, most of the funds raised during the last 5 years have been spent on treatments, managing a household, and basic needs.
Christine and Brooke built a life and a home together. Brooke was Christine’s around-the-clock caregiver. She was by Christine’s side for every treatment, nursed her when the treatments would leave her too weak and too sick. The journey of cancer is not an easy one to navigate. A new treatment would begin to work, and one day, it suddenly no longer works. You move on to the next treatment and hope for the best. With the day-to-day changes, Brooke has tried to keep up with her freelance work, but with the uncertainties they faced every single day, she could not have a sustainable career these last 5 years.
Christine was no different from other musicians. Most don’t have great health insurance, if they have any at all, no retirement funds or 401Ks, and usually no savings. They get by living gig-to-gig.
Just a few short weeks ago, we began this fundraiser to help raise enough for Christine and Brooke to be financially secure for one year. This goal has not changed. The focus now is to make sure Brooke has a safety net to get her by as she works to get through this difficult time. Having lost the love of her life, Brooke needs time to sort through so much – grief, pain, maintaining their home, and finding her way without her love by her side.
It will be a long time until Brooke is able to move forward. Together, we can help.
Helping Brooke is helping Christine.
